That Sweater Is Totally "Me"

Anyone who is anyone in the world of fashion makes sure they have a signature style, that “something special” that sets them apart. Even if you’re not living the lifestyle of the rich and famous, your clothes reflect your personality and your outlook on life. Why not make it unique?

Whether you’ll admit it or not, first impressions are based on appearances. Make your first impression memorable, and let ‘you’ shine through your outfit!

Take if from someone who has enough experience in teenage fashion to give advice: being individual isn’t always easy. There are the giggles and the double takes, but really, who cares? If you’re comfortable and feel your best, there’s nothing stopping you from shining like a celebrity. And chances are, the people staring are just plain jealous.

When creating your individualistic wardrobe, keep these suggestions in mind:

  • When choosing somewhere to shop, skip the same old mall you go to with your friends every weekend. Downtown Vancouver has some of the most eccentric shopping, from designer to vintage, and offers many possibilities that a mall won’t have.
  • Choose items that you can’t live without. Pick something that you would see in the store window and immediately say, “that’s me.”
  • Everyone needs staple items, whether it’s a black skirt, a white dress shirt, or a pair of jeans, and these are the things you want to save up your money for. Clothing that you’ll wear everyday is worthy of quality and durability. So treat yourself to that black cashmere sweater you’ve had your eye on – you deserve it!
  • For girls, when it comes to footwear, it’s a battle between comfort and style. Go for sexy red flats or designer runners to get the best of both worlds.

But remember; don’t take these superficial rules to heart. Just be yourself, that’s really all that matters, in and outside of the world of fashion.
