Straylight Run - The Needles The Space
4.5 out of 5 stars
I really enjoyed listening to this CD. Most of the songs were quite upbeat. There was an interesting variety of instrumentation, which I liked. The melodic vocal lines made the songs on this CD memorable. The untitled instrumental track was particular ear catching with a mixture of tribal drumming and some interesting electronic sounds. I particularly liked "We'll Never Leave Again" and "Take it to Manhattan" because of the dominant presence of the piano. The last track, "The First of the Century" begins with the guitar being played quietly in the background while the vocal line takes on a rather serious tone then the music picks up with the addition of the drums and it continues to crescendo to the climax. "The Miracle That Never Came" was probably my favorite out of the upbeat tracks. The quicker tempo and steady beat gets you into the song right away.
A plus to this CD was that it had music videos for two of the songs on it, which was really cool.
I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone that's a fan of The Shins or any other indie-pop group. It's a great "pick me up" CD. The mellow music is very relaxing and it leaves you in a calm and happy mood.
