Interview with Selena Gomez

Tina: So how do you like Canada so far?
Selena: It’s absolutely the best! I’ve traveled a lot, but Canada is by far the best! I absolutely love the cold so it’s been really fun. I love just getting all bundled up and stuff. Since I’m from Texas we don’t get much cold, so it’s a really nice change. My mom and I love it here so much we want to get a summerhouse or something in Vancouver. It would be so much fun!

Tina: What is a typical day in the life of Selena Gomez, on set?
Selena: Well I wake up at 5:00am, then I drive to the set, I get hair and make-up and then I go to wardrobe. After I’m ready I run lines for the next scene, then I have school. Then I’m on set until 5:30. After that I hang out with the cast and call my family back home, and then I just sleep. And all through the day I eat…A LOT!

Tina: So Selena, is there a big difference from being on a movie set than on a TV set?
Selena: Definitely. Movies are more complicated and a lot harder to film. With movies you have to have your script absolutely memorized and you have to hit right on the mark because there’s only 1 camera. Whereas when you film a TV show you can have your script with you in case you forget a line, and you don’t have to be as perfect with the positioning because there’s like 4 cameras so at least one is going to get the shot. TV is more fun too, because you get the live audience and stuff, but a movie is very serious and you have to be serious when you do it. Sometimes in TV you can goof off a bit and it’s ok in the final cut.

Tina: What was your favorite moment on a TV or movie set?
Selena: On TV every time we film in front of a live audience is my favorite, because we get to meet everyone. On Movies I like it when you really connect with the other actor. It’s cool when the in the scene you just suddenly click and everything feels real.

Tina: Have you ever had the classic “off-set chemistry” with a co-star?
Selena: Surprisingly no. I think it’s a really bad idea, because if you date someone that is on your set and then you break-up it becomes very awkward and the chemistry on screen is gone. I think it’s better to date people who you don’t work with; it’s a lot easier that way.

Tina: What were your favorite cast and crew to work with?
Selena: “Wizards of Waverly Place” and “Another Cinderella Story.”

Tina: Did your on-screen kisses make you nervous?
Selena: The first one on “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” with Dylan Sprouse did, but with the others it was just part of my job so I did it.

Tina: Who do you want to work with in the future?
Selena: Shia LaBeouf definitely. I think he’s a really good actor. “Transformers” is one of my all-time favorite movies.

Tina: How have you liked working with the cast and crew of this movie?
Selena: It’s been really fun, and I learned a lot. The people I’m working with have been around a lot longer than I have, so I get to learn from them.

Tina: Do you prefer filming on location or in a studio?
Selena: Definitely on location, because I get to travel and go to new places and meet new people (like you guys). I also like to see all the different things everywhere and all the different attractions.

Tina: Who is your biggest idol?
Selena: My mom. I also really like Rachel McAdams and Rachel Bilson. I love it when people say I look like Rachel Bilson because I think she’s so great.

Tina: Since you’ve become famous, have your friends treated you different?
Selena: Not really. I have lost some friends though. Like some of my friends started bragging and stuff that they knew me, and I didn’t like that. When stuff like this happens, that’s when you get to know who your real friends are.

Tina: What made you want to be an actress?
Selena: Well when I was young I used to play dress-up and put on pretend plays and stuff. My mom was a theatre actress, so I used to memorize her script, and I would be playing with my dolls and saying the script when I was like 6. Then when I watched my mom rehe@#$%! I was like that’s what I want to do with my life. And now here I am.

Tina: Is there anywhere in the world that you want to film more than everywhere else?
Selena: London, England. I’ve always wanted to go to the UK.

Tina: If you ever did anything other than acting, what would it be?
Selena: I want to be in a band. I don’t want to go solo; I want to be in a band, like “Paramour.” I really like them and I would love to do the whole punk rock band thing.

Tina: What is your favorite place in the world?
Selena: My home. I miss it when I’m gone.

Tina: What was the worst thing you ever did as a child?
Selena: When I was 9 I took shoe polish and wrote ALL over my neighbor’s car! Then when they came to my house I started to cry and blamed it on my other neighbor that I hated. They eventually found out it was me, but it was fun while it lasted.

Tina: What is the most played song on your iPod?
Selena: “Inseparable” by the Jonas Brothers.

Tina: What is the song you dislike the most?
Selena: I would have to say “Photograph” by Nickelback, because it sounds like it could be such a pretty song, but he’s not singing very nicely.

Tina: What is your favorite thing to eat on the road?
Selena: Pickles with salt to give it extra bite.

Tina: Who is/was your biggest celebrity crush?
Selena: Nick Jonas. Kevin and Joe Jonas too, but Nick the most because he’s my age.

Tina: Who is your favorite band or singer?
Selena: The Jonas Brothers.

Tina: What do you do to cheer-up your friends when they’re sad?
Selena: I take them bowling. I don’t think people go bowling enough, and it’s on thing you can do where you can be loud and just talk as much as you want. When you go to the movies you don’t really talk or anything because you have to be quiet. I rally like bowling, so that’s where I take people when they’re sad, it always cheers them up.

Tina: What do you do for fun when you’re at home?
Selena: I use the Internet, and sometimes I get tons of pillows and blankets and get al cozy and watch myself a good chick flick. My favorite is “A Walk to Remember” because it’s a movie about teens, and it’s really easy for me to connect with. Shane West makes it that much better too.

Tina: What is your dream car?
Selena: I’m going to say a Lexus SUV. I know it’s not very high tech or anything, but I like simplicity. My co-star David Henrie has a really nice BMW with red leather interior and all the decorations, but I’m just not into that. I remember one time Dave and I were going for a ride and I got in the car and I couldn’t find the seat belt. I was like ‘Dave, where’s my seat belt?’ And he was like ‘Relax Selena, the seat belt comes to you.” It just blew me away when the seat belt came from the front and fastened. I don’t want anything like that, simple is what I live for. I’m like that with cell-phones too. I hate the touch screen stuff because I never know if it works so I press the button like 20 times and then the phone goes crazy. Technology has come so far, but it can get really annoying!

Tina: What’s your favorite color?
Selena: Green.

Tina: So I know you’re an only child, but what’s it like to have “fake” brothers on the TV show?
Selena: Well they’ve become like my real brothers. We all stick up for each other and look out for each other, like Jake will get “all up in a guy’s grill” if they talk to me. He and Dave are so protective of me, it’s kind of nice. I’m like that with them too, like when girls hit on them I’m just like ‘WOW…BACK AWAY!’ They’re so great.
